Sanjay Kumar Jain Assumes Charge as Chairman & Managing Director of IRCTC

 Sanjay Kumar Jain, a Indian Railway Traffic Services (IRTS) Officer from the 1990 batch, has officially assumed the role of Chairman & Managing Director of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC).

With a background as a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA), Mr. Jain brings over three decades of diverse experience in leadership roles spanning policy making, commercial ventures, and developmental projects within the Government of India and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). His extensive career includes pivotal positions in the Ministry of Railways, PSUs, and the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

Among his notable achievements, Mr. Jain served as the Group General Manager (North Zone) at IRCTC, where he played a key role in enhancing the luxury train Maharajas’ Express and introducing India’s first ‘Executive Lounge’ at New Delhi Railway Station. Under his leadership, IRCTC’s tourism business in the North Zone experienced remarkable growth, expanding by 35 times over five years.

During his tenure as Divisional Railway Manager in Mumbai, Mr. Jain oversaw a vast workforce, ensuring seamless daily services for approximately 40 lakhs commuters. His initiatives towards cleanliness and heritage conservation earned accolades, including the prestigious UNESCO Asia Pacific Cultural Heritage Award for the restoration of Mumbai Byculla Railway Station.

Mr. Jain’s commitment to women empowerment led to the establishment of the first all-women-run railway station at Matunga, Mumbai, recognized by The Limca Book of Records. Additionally, his efforts in environmental sustainability included the introduction of the “Muck Special” train dedicated to collecting garbage along railway lines in Mumbai.

His remarkable contributions to the railway sector have been honored with the Minister of Railways award for meritorious services twice, in 1999 and 2019, reflecting his dedication and leadership within the Indian Railways community.
