Noida, 3rd Aug: The protest by Sahara TV employees at the Sahara Complex in Noida has entered its 17th day, with workers escalating their agitation to demand their long-pending salaries. After a 15-day notice period, employees have begun halting the broadcast of advertisements, as management remains silent on their demands.
On July 28, the employees had served a formal notice to the Sahara management, the district administration, and the labor commissioner, threatening to intensify their strike. Having received no response, the workers have now implemented their plan to stop the broadcast of advertisements and have warned that if salaries are not paid, they will not hesitate to “black out” the channel entirely.
The employees have leveled serious allegations of large-scale financial irregularities against the management. They claim that while the Lucknow-based management is completely silent on the salary issue, officials in Noida are allegedly misappropriating advertising revenue. They accuse the company of showing fake documents to agencies like the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) to secure advertisements, even though the channel is not on air.
A proposal by employees to use the advertising revenue to pay their salaries was reportedly rejected by the management. Employees say this is a key reason behind their decision to target advertisement broadcasts as a pressure tactic.
Sources indicate that the management recently offered a one-time settlement for employees to leave the company, but this was unanimously rejected by the protesting staff who are demanding their full, pending dues. The protest continues with the employees vowing to intensify their agitation until their demands are met.
