Thiruvananthapuram, 23rd January: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that political change in Kerala is inevitable, launching a sharp attack on the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) during a public rally in Thiruvananthapuram. Declaring that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) represents a “third alternative” of development and good governance, the Prime Minister said the people of Kerala are ready for a new political direction.
Referring to the BJP’s recent performance in the Thiruvananthapuram civic elections, PM Modi described the victory as historic and said it reflected growing public trust in the party. He alleged that both the LDF and the UDF have, over the years, weakened Kerala through corruption, misgovernance and appeasement politics.
“You have seen only two sides in Kerala so far—the LDF and the UDF. Though their flags are different, their agenda is the same. Full corruption, zero accountability,” the Prime Minister said, adding that governments change in the state, but the system remains unchanged. He maintained that the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) offer a pro-people and pro-development alternative.
The Prime Minister said the aspirations of Kerala’s people are clearly visible and claimed that citizens across the state have placed their faith in the BJP. He said Thiruvananthapuram has emerged as a foundation stone for the party’s growth in Kerala, allowing the BJP an opportunity to serve the people at the grassroots level.
Raising the issue of the alleged gold theft at the Sabarimala temple, PM Modi accused the LDF government of undermining the sanctity and traditions of the revered shrine. He assured the gathering that ensuring a thorough probe into the issue is “Modi ki guarantee,” drawing loud applause from supporters.
The Prime Minister also launched a strong attack on the Congress, accusing the party of betraying Kerala’s interests. He claimed that the state would benefit from a “double-engine” government if the NDA comes to power, asserting that coordination between the Centre and the state would accelerate development.
Appealing to voters to support the BJP in the coming elections, PM Modi said Kerala needs new politics and a long-term vision for growth. He called for a decisive mandate for the BJP over the next 25 years to realise the goal of “Viksit Keralam”, or a developed Kerala.
Towards the end of his address, the Prime Minister paused briefly to acknowledge a child in the crowd holding his portrait. He asked security personnel to receive it on his behalf and requested the child to write his address on the back, assuring him that he would respond personally.
