S.B.K. Singh Gets Additional Charge as Delhi Police Commissioner

MHA Order Names Senior IPS Officer to Succeed Retiring Commissioner Sanjay Arora.

New Delhi, 1st July: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior IPS officer S.B.K. Singh as the new Commissioner of Police for Delhi, assigning him the additional charge of the post. The appointment comes into effect from August 1, 2025, and will remain in place until further orders.

In an official order issued on July 31, the MHA stated that the “competent authority” approved the appointment of Sh. S.B.K. Singh, an IPS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) 1988 batch. He will hold the new position alongside his current role as Director General of Home Guards, Delhi.

Singh takes over from the incumbent Commissioner, Sanjay Arora, who has retired from the post. A decorated officer with over 36 years of experience, S.B.K. Singh’s career spans various critical roles within the Delhi Police, as well as stints as the head of police forces in Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. He is known for his tech-driven approach and innovative policing initiatives, including the development of mobile applications for public facilitation. His extensive background also includes a seven-year tenure with the Cabinet Secretariat (R&AW).

The appointment makes Singh the third consecutive commissioner but the first from the AGMUT cadre in a row after two successive appointments from outside cadres. He is expected to serve in the role until early 2026.
