Moscow, 4th April.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the delivery of Russian oil to India remains consistently high, with no payment issues reported, according to the state-owned news agency TASS.

During a briefing on Wednesday, Maria Zakharova, the official spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, mentioned that there are no problems with determining payment methods for the oil exported by Russia to India.

Zakharova emphasized that priority is given to using national currencies for payments, which helps avoid reliance on Western banking transaction regulations.

In February, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India’s decision to continue purchasing Russian oil despite sanctions imposed on Moscow due to the conflict with Ukraine.

Jaishankar highlighted the longstanding stable and friendly relationship between India and Russia, stating that Russia has never acted against India’s interests.

During an interview with the German economic daily Handelsblatt at the Munich Security Conference, Jaishankar emphasized that India’s perspective on Russia differs from Europe’s and that India has historically had positive experiences with Russia.

Jaishankar explained that Europe shifted its energy procurement to the Middle East after the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, causing India and other nations to seek alternative energy sources.

Regarding the decision to continue purchasing Russian oil, Jaishankar stated, “Everyone conducts a relationship based on their past experiences. If I look at the history of India post-independence, Russia has never hurt our interests.”

He also mentioned that India and Europe have discussed their differing stances on the issue and that India’s decision helped stabilize the energy market by preventing a shortage of energy or increased prices due to Europe’s higher payments to Middle Eastern suppliers.
