RuPay Card will be introduced in Mauritius

New Delhi, 11th Feb. On February 12, 2024, via video conference, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, President of Sri Lanka, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr. Pravind Jugnauth witnessed the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in both Sri Lanka and Mauritius, as well as RuPay card services in Mauritius.

Innovation in Fintech and Digital Public Infrastructure has made India a leader in these fields. The Prime Minister has made sharing our innovations and development experiences with partner nations a top priority. The launch will benefit a wide range of people by enhancing digital connectivity between the countries and providing a faster and more seamless digital transaction experience, especially considering India’s strong cultural and people-to-people links with Sri Lanka and Mauritius.

With the launch, Indian nationals traveling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as Mauritius nationals traveling to India will have access to UPI settlement services. RuPay card services will be extended to Mauritius, allowing Mauritian banks to issue cards utilizing the RuPay mechanism there and facilitating the use of RuPay cards for settlements in both Mauritius and India.
