RSS Will Continue Its Work Regardless of BJP’s Fate: Sunil Ambekar
Prachar Pramukh says the Sangh’s influence extends beyond politics as RSS marks its centenary

New Delhi, 11th Oct: As the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) completes 100 years, its Prachar Pramukh, Sunil Ambekar, has asserted that the organisation’s growth and expansion do not depend on whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains in power.
In an interview with NDTV marking the Sangh’s centenary celebrations, Ambekar said, “Whether the BJP wins or loses an election, the Sangh will wake up the next morning and continue its work as usual.” He dismissed the notion that the RSS needs the BJP in power to strengthen its activities, saying, “People who have such thoughts need to understand that the Sangh will work regardless of anything. The Sangh’s impact extends to education, labour, and even politics.”
Ambekar noted that the RSS has faced challenges in the past but has always managed to continue its work. “If the government creates hurdles, our workers work harder to overcome them. Even those who criticise us politically often help us on the ground,” he said.
On the issue of violence being linked to Hindu organisations, Ambekar urged restraint and objectivity.
“If any incident happens, it should not be linked to Hindu organisations by default. What is wrong is wrong, but it should not be politicised. Our country is progressing, and our efforts should align with that direction,” he said.
Responding to Opposition allegations that the lawyer who attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai had an “RSS-BJP mindset,” Ambekar said, “People understand the Sangh at the ground level. Our teachings and work are well known, and that’s enough to dispel such claims.”
He also rejected suggestions that the RSS acts as a “high command” for the BJP-led government. “I am not saying we have no relationship with the government. But one Modi cannot do all the work for the country. Everyone must work together. The Sangh does not indulge in politics,” Ambekar said.
Defending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mention of the RSS during his Independence Day address, Ambekar said the organisation operates independently.
“The word ‘Swayamsevak’ means to work on your own. We are not dependent on anyone. Our workers raise their own funds and work for society,” he added.
Founded in 1925 by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur, the RSS began as a volunteer-based organisation promoting cultural awareness, discipline, and social responsibility. Its centenary celebrations, which began last month, are being observed across India through October.
