Patna, 16th Nov: The feud in Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family has widened sharply after daughter Rohini Acharya levelled explosive charges against her relatives in the aftermath of the Bihar election setback. Acharya, who donated a kidney to her father in 2022, alleged that she was accused of buying an election ticket in exchange for what her family described as a “dirty kidney.”

The 46-year-old RJD leader yesterday cut all ties with her family and declared her exit from politics. This internal turmoil follows the earlier ouster of Lalu Yadav’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, who later floated his own outfit and failed to make a mark in the state polls.

In two deeply emotional posts this morning, Acharya described the humiliation she says she endured within the family. “Yesterday, I was cursed at and told that I am dirty and that I got my father to have my dirty kidney transplanted into him, took crores of rupees, bought a ticket, and then got that dirty kidney put in,” she wrote before leaving for Singapore on Friday night.

Acharya, who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Saran on an RJD ticket but lost, said she was criticised for prioritising her father’s health over her immediate family. “It became a sin that I didn’t look after my children, didn’t take permission from my husband or in-laws. I did what I did to save my father, and today it has been called dirty… may no family ever have a daughter like Rohini,” she posted.

In another statement, she alleged she was subjected to “filthy abuses” and that a slipper was raised at her. “I did not compromise on my self-respect,” she said, adding that she left her family home under compulsion, “orphaned” and humiliated.

According to sources, the allegations were made public following a heated argument between Acharya and her younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav. Tejashwi, they claim, blamed her for the party’s electoral drubbing and allegedly raised a slipper at her during the confrontation. The RJD has offered no official comment so far.

Acharya said she disowned her family and resigned from political life at the insistence of senior RJD leader Sanjay Yadav and another close aide of Tejashwi’s, Rameez Khan.

The BJP seized upon the controversy, attacking the RJD’s leadership. Amit Malviya, who heads the BJP’s IT Cell, accused the Yadav family of harbouring a “patriarchal, anti-woman mindset.” He said, “Rohini Acharya donated her kidney without caring for her life. But Lalu gave preference to Tejashwi over his daughter’s honour… this is the real face of their mentality.”

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha also criticised the family, calling the feud a reflection of what he described as “anarchy” within the RJD. “Those who cannot keep their own family together—how will they run Bihar?” he said, adding that the matter was still a personal one.

Union Minister and BJP ally Chirag Paswan refrained from criticism, saying he regards all of Lalu Yadav’s children — Tejashwi, Tej Pratap, Misa Bharti and Rohini — as siblings. “I pray that this family dispute is resolved at the earliest,” he said.

The RJD’s silence continues as the controversy grows, deepening the crisis within Bihar’s most influential political family.
