Kaimur, Bihar, 22nd Oct: In a pre-poll jolt to the Mahagathbandhan, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Shweta Suman’s nomination from the Mohania Assembly constituency has been cancelled, just days before voting in the Bihar Assembly elections.

The cancellation came after the BJP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging discrepancies in her documents. Shweta had reportedly shown her parental home in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, during the 2020 elections, while this time declaring herself a resident of Bihar.

Speaking to the media, Shweta Suman claimed officials had already decided to reject her papers before the scrutiny. “They handed me a written notice saying my nomination has been cancelled. They told me I could go to court if I wanted,” she said, alleging that local officers acted under pressure from higher authorities.

“The officers told me they were helpless. Calls were coming from the District Magistrate’s office. This is not scrutiny — this is the murder of democracy,” she said, accusing the BJP and the Bihar government of manipulating the process.

Shweta announced she will move court against the decision, claiming that BJP candidate Sangeeta’s nomination also had irregularities that were ignored.

This is not the first such incident in the ongoing elections. Earlier, the nomination of VIP candidate Shashi Bhushan Singh from Supauli (Motihari) and LJP (Ram Vilas) candidate and Bhojpuri actress Seema Singh from Marhaura (Saran) were also cancelled due to technical issues.

Polling for Bihar’s 243 Assembly seats will be held in two phases — on November 6 and November 11 — with counting scheduled for November 14.
