Retired IAS Officer Among Five Booked for Murder of Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara Dera Chief

 Five people, including a retired IAS officer, have been charged in connection with the murder of the dera kar seva chief at Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara in Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand, police said today.

Baba Tarsem Singh was fatally shot on Thursday at the shrine by two men on a motorcycle.

The FIR includes the two attackers – Sarabjit Singh and Amarjeet Singh, IAS officer Harbans Singh Chugh who leads the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Baba Anup Singh, and Pritam Singh Sandhu, the vice-president of a regional Sikh organization, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC.

The FIR was filed on Friday, the SSP added.

Sarabjit Singh is from Tarn Taran in Punjab, while Amarjeet Singh is from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. They are facing charges under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder), 120b (criminal conspiracy), and 34 (common intention), as per the police.

Three others, including the retired IAS officer, were named in the FIR due to suspicions raised by the complainant about their involvement, the SSP explained.

The dera kar seva chief was sitting in a chair when he was shot with a rifle by the pillion rider. Baba Tarsem Singh was taken to a hospital in Khatima, where he later passed away.

Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara, located around 50 km from Rudrapur, is a revered Sikh shrine on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route in Udham Singh Nagar district.
