Baramati/Mumbai, 26th Feb: NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on Thursday demanded the resignation of Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu following the fatal plane crash in Baramati that claimed the life of his uncle and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar along with others.
Addressing reporters after staging a protest, Rohit Pawar alleged that the minister’s party had financial links with the company involved in the aircraft’s operations. “We are demanding the resignation of the Union Civil Aviation Minister. His party has proven financial links to the company involved. He should not remain in his post,” he said, urging that a police case be registered.
He further alleged that the owner of VSR company had close ties with powerful political figures and claimed there was an attempt to shield those responsible. “There is a clear attempt to protect VSR because some big personality is involved,” he said.
Speaking emotionally about his relationship with Ajit Pawar, Rohit Pawar said his uncle had supported him politically and personally. He also claimed that Ajit Pawar’s last wish was to reunite with NCP founder Sharad Pawar.
Raising questions about the investigation, Rohit Pawar said the public deserved clarity on the progress made by the Pune Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He noted that while the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau examines technical aspects of crashes, the criminal dimension must also be probed thoroughly.
He also referred to social media posts by Ajit Pawar’s son expressing doubts about the aircraft’s black box, and said Sunetra Pawar had demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
The Baramati aircraft accident on January 28 is currently under investigation by the CID after the case was transferred in view of its gravity. Addressing a press conference, Additional Director General of Police Sunil Ramanand said the probe is examining three aspects — whether there was foul play or sabotage, whether criminal negligence contributed to the incident, and whether it was part of a broader criminal conspiracy.
He added that the CID would incorporate the findings of the AAIB once its report is submitted.
The crash has triggered intense political debate in Maharashtra, with the Opposition demanding accountability and transparency in the investigation.
