New Delhi, 5th May: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a sapling at Delhi’s Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, giving a fresh push to the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and reaffirming his government’s commitment to the reforestation of the ancient Aravalli range under the ambitious Aravalli Green Wall Project.

Highlighting the ecological importance of the Aravallis, one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges stretching across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi, the Prime Minister underlined the urgency to counter the environmental challenges threatening the region. These include increasing desertification, dust storms, and the expansion of the Thar Desert eastwards.

“This plantation is part of our effort to reforest the Aravalli range. Our government is determined to rejuvenate this ecosystem and work with local administrations to improve water systems and curb environmental degradation,” he said in a series of posts on X.

To overcome urban constraints, the Prime Minister said innovative methods will be promoted for tree planting in urban and semi-urban zones. All plantation efforts will be geo-tagged and tracked via the Meri LiFE portal, ensuring transparency and citizen participation.

Modi also urged India’s youth to join the green initiative and actively contribute to enhancing the planet’s green cover, turning the campaign into a nationwide movement.

The event not only marked a symbolic gesture towards environmental conservation but also reinforced India’s commitment to sustainable living and nature-based climate solutions.
