Redefining Outcome-Based Education in the NEP 2020 Context: A Needonomics Perspective

Rohtak, December 29, 2025- Prof. Madan Mohan Goel, Propounder Needonomics School of Thought, former Vice-Chancellor, and superannuated Professor of Kurukshetra University, delivered a lecture on “Redefining Educational Outcomes: A Needonomics-Inspired OBE Framework” during an Online Short-Term Course on Outcome-Based Education (OBE).

The programme was organized by Vaish College Bhiwani in collaboration with the UGC–Malviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV), Khanpur, and was coordinated by Dr. Sangita Gupta, Vaish College. The session was presided over by Dr. Shafali Nagpal, Director, MMTTC.

Dr. Sangita Gupta delivered the welcome address and presented a citation highlighting Prof.M.M. Goel’s distinguished academic journey and his pioneering contributions.

In his address, Prof. Goel explained that Outcome-Based Education (OBE) focuses on what learners are able to know, do, and become after completing a learning experience.

Prof Goel emphasized that while OBE ensures measurable academic and skill-based outcomes, the Needonomics framework enriches OBE by anchoring education in need-based living, ethical use of resources, sustainability, and human-centered development.

He further highlighted that India’s National Education Policy provides a timely and natural convergence point for integrating OBE with Needonomics. NEP 2020’s emphasis on holistic development, multidisciplinary learning, value-based education, skill orientation, and lifelong learning aligns seamlessly with both OBE principles and the ethical foundations of Needonomics.

Prof. Goel elaborated that OBE shifts education from content delivery to meaningful learning and application, while Needonomics ensures that such learning remains aligned with human values, social responsibility, and ecological balance, rather than unchecked materialism .

Prof. Goel asserted that Outcome-Based Education, when rooted in the Needonomics framework , transforms education into a pathway for human flourishing. Such an integrated approach aligns learning with life, skills with values, and growth with sustainability—nurturing not only competent professionals but also responsible, ethical, and compassionate human beings capable of building a balanced and need-based society.
