During a raid in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, officers from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) were assaulted and their vehicles were damaged by supporters of TMC leader Sheikh Sajahan. The raid was conducted as part of the ED’s investigation into a ration distribution scam.
The ED officers were conducting raids at 15 locations in the state, and Sajahan’s residence was one of them. However, when they reached his house in the morning, a large number of TMC loyalists surrounded them and attacked them, forcing them to leave the area. One officer sustained head injuries and had to be taken to the hospital.
Sajahan, who is believed to be a close aide of state minister Jyotipriyo Mallick, was arrested in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution scam. The ED officer stated that they have reported the incident involving Sajahan to their Delhi office.
According to the officer, Sajahan’s supporters attacked the officials and central forces personnel when they tried to break the lock of his residence, which he had refused to open despite repeated calls. The officer also alleged that senior police officers, including the SP of North 24 Parganas district, did not respond when the ED officers tried to contact them.
