Bengaluru, 8th Nov: A Rapido bike taxi rider has been booked for allegedly molesting a woman passenger during a ride in Bengaluru. The woman, who recorded part of the incident, later approached the police and filed a complaint.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 4 pm on Thursday. The Wilson Garden Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated an investigation. A response from Rapido on the incident is awaited.
In her social media post, the woman recounted that while returning to her Paying Guest (PG) accommodation from Church Street, the rider “tried to grab my legs while riding.”
“It happened so suddenly that I couldn’t even process it, let alone record it. When he did it again, I told him, ‘Bhaiya, kya kar rahe ho, mat karo (What are you doing? Don’t do this),’ but he didn’t stop,” she wrote.
The woman said she felt trapped as she was new to the area and didn’t know where to ask the rider to stop. Upon reaching her destination, a bystander intervened after noticing her distress. “When I told him, he confronted the captain. The captain apologised but later pointed his finger at me in a threatening way before leaving,” she said.
Sharing the video and her account on Instagram, the woman said she spoke up because “no woman should have to go through something like this — not in a cab, not on a bike, not anywhere.”
Police said the accused has been identified and efforts are underway to locate him. The incident has reignited concerns over women’s safety in app-based transport services.
