New Delhi, 8th Feb. In a poignant and emotional occasion, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday extended heartfelt farewells to 68 esteemed colleagues who are set to retire between February and May following the completion of their terms.
Expressing deep appreciation for their dedicated service, the Chairman acknowledged the profound contributions made by each retiring member in advancing the interests of Bharat and its people.
Addressing the august gathering, the Chairman remarked on the significance of the parliamentary chambers as the sanctum sanctorum of the temple of democracy. He underscored the unity of purpose among members, despite the diversity of views, emphasizing their singular commitment to serve the nation.
During their illustrious tenure, the Council of States witnessed several significant milestones, including the deletion of Article 370 and the landmark decision to secure reservation for women in legislative bodies. The use of Indian languages in parliamentary discussions also saw a notable increase, reflecting the country’s rich linguistic diversity.
The Chairman lauded the retiring members for their active participation in enriching the quality of discourse, noting their instrumental role in shaping legislative policies and scrutinizing government actions.
Special mention was made of the retiring women members and ministers, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the House and the nation.
Among those retiring are five of women Members, Smt. Jaya Bachchan, Smt. Vandana Chavan,Smt. Kanta Kardam, Dr. Sonal Mansingh and Dr. Amee Yajnik.
Also retiring are nine Ministers, including Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Shri Narayan Rane, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Shri Bhupendra Yadav, Shri Parshottam Rupala, Shri Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Shri V. Muraleedharan, Dr. L. Murugan, all of whom have served the country with distinction, steering their respective Ministries to greater heights.
The Chairman expressed confidence in the continued engagement of the retiring members in public service, citing their wealth of parliamentary experience as an invaluable asset.
He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the retiring members and wished them every success in their future endeavors, urging them to continue inspiring and leading for the welfare and progress of the nation.
As the Presiding Officer, the Chairman acknowledged the void left by their retirement and expressed his personal appreciation for their dedicated service.
He concluded by expressing confidence that their guidance and mentorship would continue to be available to society at large, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for the nation.
