Badli, 28th Sept. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for attempting to tarnish India’s image during his recent foreign visits. Speaking at a rally in Haryana’s Badli in support of BJP candidate O.P. Dhankar, Singh said that former leaders of the opposition, such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani, never sought to harm the nation’s reputation abroad.
Singh referenced Gandhi’s comments made during a gathering of Indian Americans in Herndon, Virginia, where the Congress leader spoke about issues faced by the Sikh community, questioning their ability to wear traditional symbols and access gurdwaras in India.
“Rahul tries to tarnish the image of India in other countries,” Singh remarked, urging the crowd to consider whether such behavior should be supported.
He further emphasized that there is no prohibition against Sikhs in India, contrasting the current situation with the past when BJP leaders represented the country internationally without casting it in a negative light.
The Defence Minister also criticized the Congress party for failing to fulfill its promises in states it governs, particularly citing ongoing protests by government employees in Himachal Pradesh over delayed salaries. He questioned if the people of Haryana desired a similar government.
Singh pointed to corruption allegations against the Congress-led Karnataka government and dismissed accusations that the BJP is anti-Dalit, asserting that it is the Congress party that has spread misinformation about the Agnipath military recruitment scheme. He concluded by asserting that development in Haryana has been continuous over the past decade.
