Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday instructed officials to crack down on the “mining mafia” in the state by conducting a five-day operation.

The chief minister emphasized that preventing illegal mining, particularly of gravel, is a top priority for the government. He stressed that only strict and effective action will be able to curb illegal mining in the state. To achieve this, Sharma directed a joint campaign involving the police, district administrations, forest department, transport department, and mines department to be carried out over five days.

He also suggested the use of drones and other modern technology to monitor and prevent illegal mining.

Additionally, Sharma called for the formation of a task force, led by the chief secretary, to tackle illegal mining.

He emphasized that strict enforcement of the law is necessary to instill fear among those involved in illegal mining and instructed district superintendents of police to take strong action against perpetrators.

The chief minister also urged officials to ensure that mining activities in the state adhere to regulations and instructed them to regularly auction mining leases.

Furthermore, Sharma requested that the mines department provide regular reports on illegal mining and present a report on the actions taken in the past 10 days.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant and Director General of Police UR Sahoo.
