New Delhi, 25th Feb: The Indian Railways have issued a public advisory cautioning pensioners against cyber fraudsters posing as railway officials to extract personal and financial information.

According to the advisory, fraudsters are making fake phone calls and sending SMS or WhatsApp messages claiming to update Pension Payment Orders (PPO), conduct KYC verification or provide additional pension benefits. In these communications, they allegedly seek sensitive details such as bank account numbers, OTPs and passwords.

Authorities clarified that no Railway official is authorised to request confidential information through phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp or social media platforms. Railways do not send links or messages for updating PPOs or service records.

Pensioners have been advised to remain vigilant and to sensitise their family members about such fraudulent tactics. Any suspicious call or message should be immediately reported to the local Police Cyber Cell as well as the concerned administrative office.

The advisory comes amid a broader rise in digital fraud cases targeting senior citizens across the country.
