New Delhi, 30th Dec: To ensure punctual train operations during foggy winter conditions, the Railway Ministry on Monday directed its zones and divisions to monitor train movements in real time while strengthening passenger amenities.
Officials said instructions have been issued to the General Managers of Northern Railway, North Eastern Railway and North Central Railway, along with concerned Divisional Railway Managers, to intensify monitoring and take swift action in case of delays.
To minimise disruptions, spare rakes have been positioned for premium services such as the Vande Bharat Express and Shatabdi trains. An additional 20-coach Vande Bharat rake has been kept ready to ensure the on-time departure of the New Delhi–Varanasi service if the regular train arrives late. Another 20-coach rake has been made available with Northern Railway for punctual operations on the Varanasi–New Delhi sector.
A 20-coach Vande Bharat rake is also being moved from West Central Railway to Northern Railway to replace a 16-coach service and maintain on-time departures. In East Central Railway and Southern Railway zones, two AC rakes have been formed from available coaches to substitute late-running trains.
The Railway Ministry has also directed IRCTC to make adequate arrangements for catering and housekeeping services for passengers. A dedicated war room has been activated at IRCTC for real-time monitoring of train movements and to resolve catering-related issues promptly.
Senior Railway Board officials have been deputed to supervise operations and ensure quick decision-making as railways brace for dense fog conditions.
