New Delhi, 8th July. In a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his trip to Moscow, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Monday that the “non-biological” PM has not yet found time to travel to the violent state of Manipur, even for a few hours. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will be making his third trip to the northeastern state in more than a year.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi made his way to Silchar, Assam. Before traveling to Manipur to tour three separate aid camps, he will stop by a camp in Fulertal.
This evening, he is also expected to meet with the governor of Manipur.

“Today, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha is leaving for Assam and Manipur, while the non-biological prime minister is traveling to Moscow. The Congress leader wrote on X today, “Of course, many who support the non-biological PM have said that he put an end to the Russia-Ukraine war for a while.

Jairam Ramesh lashed out at PM Modi, saying, “It is likely that this trip to Moscow will result in even more absurd claims,” following 14 months of turmoil in the state. Rahul Gandhi has traveled to Manipur three times since the state’s explosion fourteen months ago.”

“The non-biological PM has not found the time nor even had the inclination to visit Manipur even for a few hours after the grave crisis erupted on May 3rd, 2023. He has not even met the CM of the state – who happens to be from his own party – and other political leaders of the state including MLAs and MPs,” he said.

At the request of the Russian President, PM Modi left earlier today for a two-day visit to Moscow for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.

Since May 2023, the Opposition has been criticizing the Center over the ethnic unrest in Manipur.
Following altercations during a rally called by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand that the Meitei people be placed under the Scheduled Tribe category, violence broke out in the northeastern state on May 3 of last year.

In his speech to the Rajya Sabha last week, Prime Minister Modi reiterated that the federal government is working to bring Manipur’s situation back to normal. “The government is working nonstop to bring Manipur’s condition back to normal. Over 500 persons have been taken into custody and more than 11,000 FIRs have been filed. Violence incidents in Manipur are steadily declining, according to PM Modi.

In order to bring about peace, he continued, the federal and state governments are making contacts with all relevant parties.
“The state’s offices, colleges, schools, and other institutions are open today. The prime minister said, “To restore peace, the federal and state governments are in communication with all relevant parties.
