New Delhi, 19th Dec. Parliament witnessed chaos on Thursday as protests, counter-protests, and allegations spiraled over Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remark on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The BJP and Congress exchanged accusations, with the focus shifting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who faced a police complaint for “attempt to murder” following an alleged altercation with BJP MPs.

The BJP’s Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were reportedly injured during the clash, prompting Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to demand an apology from Gandhi. He sarcastically questioned whether Gandhi used his Aikido skills, saying, “Parliament is not a wrestling arena.” Both MPs are under intensive care at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally inquiring about their health.

Gandhi, however, rejected the accusations, claiming BJP MPs obstructed his entry to Parliament and instigated the scuffle. “They pushed and threatened me and Mallikarjun Kharge. This might be captured on your cameras,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Congress filed a counter-complaint, alleging mistreatment of its leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also claimed injury during the protests. The day culminated in press conferences by both parties, each accusing the other of “goonda-gardi” and demanding apologies.

At the heart of the uproar is Shah’s remark during a Constitution debate, where he said, “It has become a fashion to say ‘Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar.’” The opposition demanded an apology and his resignation. Shah dismissed these demands, accusing the Congress of distorting his words.
