Rahul Gandhi Declares Assets Worth Over ₹20 Crore for Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Polls

Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and nominee for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency, disclosed assets exceeding ₹20 crore in his nomination documents, showcasing a mix of movable and immovable properties while emphasizing his lack of ownership of residential apartments or motor vehicles.

The scion of the Gandhi family revealed movable assets amounting to ₹9,24,59,264, encompassing shares valued at ₹4,33,60,519, mutual funds totaling ₹3,81,33,572, bank balances worth ₹26,25,157, and gold bonds amounting to ₹15,21,740. Notably, he declared gold and jewelry weighing 333.3 grams (net gold 168.8 grams) valued at ₹4,20,850.

In terms of immovable assets, Rahul Gandhi unveiled assets with a current market value of ₹11,15,02,598, comprising self-acquired assets valued at ₹9,04,89,000 and inherited assets worth ₹2,10,13,598. The disclosed properties include agricultural land in village Sultanpur, Mehrauli, New Delhi, spanning approximately 3.778 acres, jointly owned with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Additionally, he declared ownership of commercial apartments (office space) in Signature Towers, Gurugram, measuring 5,838 square feet and valued at around ₹9.05 crore.

The Congress leader clarified that his income sources encompass his MP’s salary, royalties, rental income, interest from bonds, dividends, and capital gains from mutual funds. His total income for the fiscal year 2022-23 amounted to ₹1,02,78,680, compared to ₹1,31,04,970 in 2021-22.

Rahul Gandhi, in his nomination papers, highlighted his educational qualifications, including an MPhil degree from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rollins College, Florida.

The disclosure also outlined legal matters involving the Congress scion, including 18 cases filed against him across various states. He acknowledged his conviction in a defamation case under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code by a chief judicial magistrate’s court in March 2023, with a two-year jail sentence. The Supreme Court subsequently stayed the sentence on August 4, 2023. Rahul Gandhi clarified the pendency of an appeal in the court of the principal district judge in Gujarat’s Surat.
