Quarab Bridge damaged hampers vehicular movement near Almora

Pithoragarh, 1st June. Vehicular connectivity to Almora Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts from Haldwani came to a standstill as the vital Quarab bridge, 16 km from Almora town was damaged today. State PWD Almora sources said.

“The supporting pillar of the bridge that was built during Briish era broke down due as it had passed its age .”said Pooja Bisht, the PWD engineer who reached the spot after the incident.
According to residents of Almora, over 1000 vehicles cross the bridge from and to Haldwani daily, if bridge is not repaired soon ,Almora town will have to face shortage of essential goods. “this bridge is lifeline for Almora town and link to remote districts of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar.”said Vinay Kirola, a social worker in Almora town.
PWD officials have said that the vehicle traffic from and to Haldwani is Bering diverted via Ranikhet route. “though this diversion will have over 40 km extra travelling but the connectivity to Almora will not fully cease till the bridge gets repaired. “Said the PWD engineer.
