UNITED NATIONS – Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia on Saturday noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of the Russian Security Council, emphasized that such statements must be taken “seriously.”
Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told RIA Novosti that the US President Donald Trump’s statement on resuming nuclear testing is a matter of “grave concern,” though its full implications remain unclear.
“In response to our testing of new cruise missiles and nuclear-capable underwater weapons, President Trump stated that the United States is considering resuming nuclear testing. This is a serious statement. The consequences are still unknown,” Nebenzia said.
Nebenzia added, “We must be prepared for such a development.”
Trump said he had instructed the Department of War to immediately resume nuclear testing, citing the testing activities of other nations and stating it was “appropriate” for the US to keep pace.
