Jaipur, 23rd Oct. Supporters of dissident BJP members caused damage to furniture at the party’s Rajsamand district office and burned campaign materials on the road to express their dissatisfaction with the distribution of tickets for the upcoming assembly elections. The police have not yet registered a case in connection with this incident. The protest was reportedly against the candidacy of Deepti Maheshwari.

Following the incident, the BJP’s state disciplinary committee suspended four members from the party for their involvement in property damage and violent protests.

The committee’s chairman, Omkar Singh Lakhawat, issued a letter stating that Ajay Prajapat, Devi Lal Jatiya, Himmat Kumawat, and Mukesh Sharma, all from Rajsamand district, have been suspended.

Similar protests occurred in Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, Alwar, and Bundi when the party released its first and second lists of candidates. Effigies were burned during these protests.

In Rajsamand, three local BJP candidates, Dinesh Badala, Ganesh Paliwal, and Mahendra Kothari, arrived at the party office with their supporters. The supporters chanted slogans against Deepti Maheshwari and damaged furniture at the office. A video of supporters throwing chairs at the office went viral.

Rajsamand DSP Parth Sharma stated that no case has been registered and the situation has been calmed down.

Deputy Mayor Paras Singhvi, who was denied a ticket from Udaipur, also protested and accused former MLA Gulab Chand Kataria of interfering in Udaipur politics.

Singhvi warned that if the party did not change its decision, there would be serious consequences. Supporters of sitting MLA Chandrabhan Singh Akya protested after he was denied a ticket from the Chittorgarh seat. They burned an effigy of the state president, CP Joshi, and demanded a local candidate.

The party decided to field Narpat Singh Rajvi, son-in-law of former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, from the Chittorgarh seat. The party did not give a ticket to the current MLA from his Vidyadhar Nagar seat and replaced him with Diya Kumari, a BJP MP from Rajsamand.

When asked about the resentment, CP Joshi stated that everyone would work together as they are part of the same family. Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathore said that decisions are made collectively and denied any settling of old grudges.

In Jaipur, supporters of MLA Ashok Lahoti protested and burned tires after the party gave a ticket to Bhajanlal Sharma instead. They expressed their disapproval of outsiders in the area. Similar protests occurred in Kota South, Alwar, and Bundi against the candidatures of Sandeep Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, and Ashok Dogra, respectively.

So far, the BJP has announced candidates for 124 out of the 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan. The voting will take place on November 25, and the counting of votes will be on December 3.
