Prof. M. M. Goel Highlights Gita-inspired Needonomics as a Path to Global Harmony at Shivaji University International Conference
Kolhapur, 9th September: Prof. Madan Mohan Goel, Proponent of Needonomics and Former Vice-Chancellor (thrice), delivered the keynote address at the International Conference on “Bridging Tradition and Modernity” organized by Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Conference Director Dr. M. S. Deshmukh Professor and Head Department of Economics delivered the welcome address and introduced Prof M.M.Goel.
Speaking on the theme “Tradition Meets Transformation: Gita-inspired Needonomics for the Global Economy,” Prof. Goel highlighted the urgent need for an economic paradigm that harmonizes material progress with ethical, spiritual, and environmental sustainability.
He noted that the twenty-first century global economy, though driven by technology and interconnected markets faces a critical crossroads marked by rising inequality, environmental degradation, and ethical erosion.
Gita-inspired Needonomics shows how tradition and modernity can unite to create a balanced and just economy, said Prof. Goel.
Prof. Goel emphasized that Needonomics – an economic philosophy rooted in the distinction between needs and greed provides a balanced framework for addressing contemporary issues.
Prof. Goel said that by fostering need-based consumption, production, and governance, Needonomics evolves into more than an economic model, becomes a way of life enriched with the timeless wisdom of Gita.
He asserted that Gita-inspired Needonomics can bridge tradition and transformation, enabling a global economy that is efficient, equitable, and ethical.
By internalizing Gita’s principles of duty, moderation, non-hoarding, and selfless action, nations can progress toward an order that values well-being over wealth, sustainability over exploitation, and harmony over conflict, believes Prof Goel.
Prof. Goel said that in a world where conventional economic models are burdened by inequality and ecological crises, Gita-inspired Needonomics stands as the only true solution.
