Prime Minister Narendra Modi Embarks on State Visit to Bhutan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paro today, commencing his State Visit to Bhutan from March 22 to March 23, 2024. This visit underscores the longstanding tradition of robust high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan, in alignment with the Government’s steadfast commitment to its Neighbourhood First Policy.

Upon his arrival at Paro airport, Prime Minister Modi was warmly greeted by Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, and received a ceremonial welcome, marking the beginning of his official engagements.

During the course of this significant visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold audiences with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, and His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan. Additionally, he will engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, aimed at further enhancing the multifaceted ties between the two nations.

One of the pivotal highlights of the visit is the inauguration of the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu. This cutting-edge medical facility stands as a testament to the enduring partnership between India and Bhutan, as it has been constructed with the generous assistance of the Government of India. The hospital is poised to significantly bolster healthcare infrastructure in Thimphu, reaffirming the shared commitment to the well-being of the people of Bhutan.
