New Delhi, 2nd July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today departed on a crucial five-nation visit to Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, scheduled from July 2 to July 9, 2025. The extensive tour is set to reinforce India’s commitment to its partners in the Global South and deepen engagements across various strategic platforms.

The Prime Minister’s first destination is Ghana, where he will be from July 2-3 at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama. Emphasizing Ghana’s role as a valued partner in the Global South and within the African Union and ECOWAS, PM Modi looks forward to discussions aimed at deepening historical ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation in investment, energy, health, security, capacity building, and development partnerships. A notable highlight of this leg will be the Prime Minister’s address to the Parliament of Ghana, underscoring shared democratic values.

On July 3-4, the Prime Minister will arrive in Trinidad & Tobago. This visit aims to rejuvenate India’s deep-rooted historical, cultural, and people-to-people connections with the nation, particularly significant as it marks 180 years since the arrival of the first Indians. PM Modi is slated to meet President H.E. Mrs. Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister H.E. Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

From the Caribbean, PM Modi will proceed to Buenos Aires, Argentina, for a visit from July 4-5. This marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years. As Argentina is a key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20, discussions with President H.E. Javier Milei will focus on advancing cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary then takes him to Brazil for the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7. As a founding member, India views BRICS as a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies, advocating for a more peaceful, equitable, just, democratic, and balanced multipolar world order. Bilateral meetings with several world leaders are also expected on the sidelines. Following the Summit, PM Modi will travel to Brasilia for a bilateral State Visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades, aiming to strengthen the close partnership with Brazil and work with President H.E. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Global South priorities.

The final leg of the tour will be Namibia, where Prime Minister Modi will arrive on July 9. Namibia is recognized as a trusted partner, sharing a common history of struggle against colonialism. The Prime Minister will meet President H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to chart a new roadmap for cooperation. A privilege of this visit will be addressing the Joint Session of the Namibian Parliament, celebrating the enduring solidarity and shared commitment to freedom and development.

In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that these visits will “reinforce our bonds of friendship across the Global South, strengthen our partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic, and deepen engagements in multilateral platforms such as BRICS, the African Union, ECOWAS, and CARICOM.”
