President Murmu to Lead Women’s Day Event

National celebration at Manekshaw Centre to showcase women-led development

New Delhi, 7th March: President Droupadi Murmu will grace the national celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8 at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, the Ministry of Women and Child Development announced on Saturday.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), will highlight the achievements and contributions of women across various sectors while reinforcing the government’s focus on women-led development.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi and Minister of State Savitri Thakur will also be present at the programme.

International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8, celebrates the achievements of women and renews the commitment to gender equality, safety, dignity and empowerment.

The programme will begin with a welcome address by Anil Malik, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, followed by audio-visual presentations showcasing women’s growing participation in the workforce and key government initiatives aimed at empowering women.

President Murmu will deliver the keynote address at the event.

Union Minister Annpurna Devi will also address the gathering and highlight major policy initiatives and programmes undertaken by the government to strengthen women’s participation in development.

Following the inaugural ceremony, the programme will feature two panel discussions focusing on key issues related to women’s empowerment.

The first panel will discuss “Labour Codes – Enhancing Empowerment of Women,” while the second panel will focus on “Self-Help Group Women as Entrepreneurs.”

The event is expected to witness participation from around 1,000 women representing more than 150 ministries, departments and organisations.

Participants will include women from the armed forces, police, media, healthcare, sports and other professional sectors, reflecting the diverse contributions of women across the country.
