New Delhi, 16th July: President of India Droupadi Murmu will confer the prestigious Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards on July 17 at a national ceremony organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan. Union Minister Manohar Lal and Minister of State Tokhan Sahu will also be present.
This marks the 9th edition of the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey, covering over 4,500 cities and involving a record 14 crore citizens through digital platforms and on-ground assessments. A total of 78 awards will be presented across four categories, including:
- Super Swachh League Cities
- Top 3 Clean Cities in five population-based categories
- Special Category Awards (Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, Mahakumbh, SafaiMitra Suraksha)
- Promising Clean Cities at the state level
For the first time, cities were grouped by population into five categories, from very small towns to million-plus cities, ensuring fair competition across all urban sizes.
The Super Swachh League (SSL) was introduced to recognize consistent top performers. Cities previously ranked in the top three and currently in the top 20% within their population class were considered for this elite league.
The 2024-25 assessment was conducted over 45 days by more than 3,000 assessors, covering over 11 lakh households using a smart, structured framework of 10 parameters and 54 indicators. This year’s awards focused on the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” theme to promote sustainability in urban sanitation and waste management.
The Cabinet lauded the initiative as a driving force of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U), reshaping urban sanitation standards and fostering healthy competition.
