New Delhi, 6th March: President Droupadi Murmu will visit Darjeeling in West Bengal on March 7 to attend the 9th International Santal Conference, organised by the International Santal Council.

According to an official statement released on Thursday, the President will grace the conference as the chief guest during her visit to the hill town.

The conference is expected to bring together scholars, community leaders and representatives from across the Santal community to discuss issues related to culture, heritage, language and social development.

The Santal community is one of the largest tribal groups in India, with a strong cultural presence in several eastern states including West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar.

The International Santal Conference is organised periodically to promote awareness of Santal traditions and to discuss initiatives aimed at preserving the community’s cultural identity and promoting socio-economic progress.
