New Delhi, 8th June. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy to the Prime Minister and other members of the Union Council of Ministers on June 9, 2024, at 7:15 PM at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This follows a meeting on Friday at 2:30 PM between a delegation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by J. P. Nadda, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the President.
During the meeting, the delegation handed over a letter confirming that Narendra Modi has been elected as the Leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. Accompanying this were letters of support from NDA constituent parties.
The President, having reviewed the letters of support and verified that the BJP-led NDA alliance— the largest pre-election alliance—commands the majority support in the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha, appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India under Article 75(1) of the Constitution of India.
Following this appointment, the President asked Narendra Modi to specify the date and time for the swearing-in ceremony and to provide the names of individuals to be appointed as members of the Union Council of Ministers. The ceremony is set to take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, marking the formal commencement of the new government.
