New Delhi, 28th Oct: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday inaugurated the opening plenary of the Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly in New Delhi, highlighting solar energy’s transformative role in fostering equity, empowerment, and sustainable growth.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu described the ISA as a “symbol of humanity’s shared aspiration — to harness solar energy as a source of inclusion, dignity, and collective prosperity.” She said that climate change continues to pose a global threat, and nations must act with urgency and unity to address it.

Reiterating India’s strong commitment to combating climate change, the President said that the ISA represents a crucial step in promoting the global adoption and deployment of solar energy. “Solar energy is not merely about power generation but also about empowerment and inclusive development,” she said, adding that India’s experience in lighting up the remotest homes reaffirms its belief that energy equity forms the foundation of social equity.
The President urged ISA Member Countries to look beyond infrastructure development and focus on the human dimension of energy access. “This Assembly should develop a collective action plan that links solar energy with job creation, women’s leadership, rural livelihoods, and digital inclusion,” she said. “Our progress should not only be measured in megawatts but in the number of lives illuminated, families strengthened, and communities transformed.”
Emphasising the importance of technology sharing, President Murmu called for cooperation in advancing and disseminating the latest solar innovations for maximum global benefit. She further stressed that as the world expands large-scale solar installations, it must also preserve ecological balance — the very reason for turning to green energy in the first place.
“We should work with greater dedication not only for our own countries but for the entire world, and not only for the present generation but for future generations,” the President said. She expressed confidence that the ISA Assembly’s deliberations and decisions will serve as a milestone in accelerating solar energy adoption and building an inclusive and equitable world.
