New Delhi, 18th March: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended her greetings to citizens across the country and abroad on the eve of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba, marking the traditional New Year in different regions of India.

In her message, the President conveyed warm wishes, stating that these festivals reflect India’s rich cultural diversity and its deep-rooted connection with nature. She noted that the celebrations signify new beginnings, bringing with them hope, renewed resolve and positivity in people’s lives.

“On the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens in India and abroad,” she said.

Highlighting the cultural essence of the festivals, Murmu said they are vibrant expressions of India’s heritage and traditions, where communities come together to share joy and strengthen social bonds.

She emphasised that such occasions play a vital role in promoting unity among diverse communities and fostering harmony across the nation.

“May these festivals foster unity among India’s various communities through love and harmony and bring happiness, prosperity and well-being to everyone,” the President added.

These festivals, celebrated across different states under various names, mark the beginning of the Hindu New Year and are observed with traditional rituals, festivities and community gatherings.
