Jamshedpur, 29th Dec: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Monday graced the convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur and called higher educational institutions the “intellectual laboratories of the nation.”
Addressing graduating students, the President said educational institutions are not merely centres for awarding degrees but are also key hubs of research and innovation where the vision for the country’s future takes shape. She stressed that engineers trained at institutions like NITs must serve as nation-builders, using technology for human welfare.
Highlighting the rapid pace of technological change, President Murmu said advancements are creating new opportunities while also bringing challenges such as cybercrime and environmental damage from e-waste. She urged NIT Jamshedpur and similar institutions to work with industry and other organisations to develop sustainable solutions to mitigate these risks.
Linking higher education to the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, she said promoting research, innovation, startups and youth skill development is crucial for making India a knowledge superpower. She noted that emerging sectors like defence, space and atomic energy are opening new avenues for entrepreneurship, and technologically skilled youth can create employment for themselves and others.
The President concluded by emphasising that true development is measured not only by economic growth but by ensuring equal opportunities and dignity for every citizen, adding that innovation guided by compassion is essential for societal well-being.
