Imphal, 11th Dec: President Droupadi Murmu visited Manipur on Thursday, attending a civic reception hosted in her honour at the City Convention Centre, Imphal, where she also laid foundation stones and inaugurated several developmental projects.

Addressing the gathering, the President described Manipur as a land of resilience, courage and extraordinary cultural heritage. She praised the people of the state for their contribution over generations in fields such as sports, the armed forces, art, culture and public service.

Acknowledging the hardships the state has faced following recent violence, President Murmu said that addressing the concerns of the people of Manipur remains the Union Government’s highest priority. She reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to strengthening harmony, ensuring security and supporting the state in its journey towards stability and prosperity. She emphasised that equitable development would be ensured so that benefits reach every part of the state.

Highlighting Manipur’s strategic importance, the President called it the gateway to India’s engagement with Southeast Asia. She noted that the state’s youth, culture and natural beauty give it “unlimited potential.” She also praised the historic spirit of Manipur’s women, recalling the two Nupee Lal movements of the early 20th century—powerful examples of women-led resistance that continue to inspire the nation.

President Murmu expressed confidence that communities from both the hills and the valley would stay united with renewed harmony and work together to take the state to greater heights. She urged the people of Manipur to uphold peace and support developmental measures.

“We should together strengthen Manipur as a State where every child feels safe, every woman feels empowered, every community feels included, and every citizen moves ahead towards a brighter future,” she said.

Earlier in the day, the President witnessed a Polo Exhibition Match at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung, further highlighting the state’s cultural and sporting heritage.
