President Murmu Calls for Self-Reliant India at Gujarat Vidyapith

Ahmedabad, 11th Oct: President Droupadi Murmu attended the 71st convocation ceremony of Gujarat Vidyapith in Ahmedabad on Saturday, describing the institution as a “sacred land of the ideals of India’s freedom struggle.”

Addressing the gathering, the President paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, highlighting Gujarat Vidyapith’s role as a living symbol of nation-building and self-reliance. She reminded students that Mahatma Gandhi envisioned them as active contributors to the nation’s progress and urged them to take a pledge to help make India a developed nation.

Murmu noted that Gujarat has a long-standing culture of self-employment and encouraged its propagation across the country. Emphasizing that “making India self-reliant is our national priority,” she called on students to take part in the national Swadeshi campaign and promote self-reliance in their communities.

Highlighting the transformative power of education, the President urged teachers and students to make education a means of social reconstruction through character building and moral development. She encouraged students to connect their education with local realities to ensure its practical use.

Earlier in the day, President Murmu performed Darshan and Aarti at the Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, Gujarat.
