President Droupadi Murmu’s Visit: Assam Preps Elaborately; CM Sarma Inspects Arrangements

Guwahati, April 7: Assam is gearing up for the two-day visit of President Droupadi Murmu on April 24 and 25. The President will visit the state to witness the coveted Srimanta Sankardev Award Ceremony, which will take place at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

With the President’s visit in sight, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over an important meeting with senior state government officers and Gauhati University officials at Lok Sewa Bhawan. The meeting was centered around making arrangements smooth, particularly in and around the area of Janata Bhawan and other important locations on the President’s itinerary.

Following an official announcement made on social media platform X by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure perfect implementation of all upcoming events. The CMO said, “HCM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with senior officials and Gauhati University officials at Lok Sewa Bhawan to discuss preparation for Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Assam.”

Along with planning for logistics, CM Sarma particularly focused on promoting the spiritual and cultural heritage of Assam in the Srimanta Sankardev Award ceremony. He instructed officials to make sure the event showcases the profound impact of Vaishnavite culture that is at the core of the teachings of Srimanta Sankardev, a famous saint, poet, and cultural figure in Assam.

“CM instructed officials to provide smooth conduct of all events and emphasize the spirit of Vaishnavite culture at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Award ceremony,” the CMO further said in its post.

The Srimanta Sankardev Award is among Assam’s most distinguished cultural awards, which are given to individuals for their outstanding work towards the preservation and promotion of art, culture, and literature inspired by the work of Srimanta Sankardev.

The visit is of special importance as it comes after the previous cancellation of President Murmu’s planned visit to Meghalaya in January because of bad weather. She was to inaugurate the golden jubilee celebrations of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the Northeastern Hills Region at Umiam in the Ri Bhoi district.

President Murmu’s visit to Assam is slated to be a historic moment, marking not only the state’s cultural zest but also reinforcing Centre-Northeast ties. Preparations are in top gear, with the Assam government looking forward to a hitch-free and culturally satisfying experience.
