Gangtok, 4th Nov. President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Sikkim on Friday for a two-day visit.
Governor Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and senior civil and military officials greeted her at the Libing helipad.
On her first visit to Sikkim, the President was accorded a guard of honour by the 23 Rajput Battalion. The President then went to Gangtok’s Raj Bhawan.
President Murmu is in Sikkim for a two-day visit. Later this evening, at a function in Manan Kendra, she will inaugurate and lay the groundwork for a number of state and central projects.
Among the virtual inaugurations will be the launch of the 1.123-kilometer Atal Setu Viaduct at Rangpo, which will connect Sikkim with West Bengal.
A two-way tunnel on National Highway 10 near Chisopani will also be inaugurated.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) have completed both projects.
The President will also dedicate the Ganju Lama Girls Hostel in Rabongla and lay the foundation for the National Institute of Technology in Gangtok’s Khamdong district, widening and improvement of road from Namchi to Birdhang connecting West and South Sikkim; District Hospital, Singtam, East Sikkim; and the World Renewal Spiritual Brahmakumaris Centre, Namchi, South Sikkim.
The President will visit the Namchi district on November 5, where she will meet with female entrepreneurs and members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
She is also scheduled to visit Chaar Dhaam in Namchi.
