Prayagraj, 19th Feb. Prayagraj District Magistrate (DM) Ravindra Mandar on Tuesday refuted social media rumours about an extension of the Maha Kumbh Mela due to heavy crowds. He clarified that the event schedule is based on religious “muhurats” (auspicious timings) and will conclude as planned on February 26.
Mandar emphasized that there is no proposal from the government or district administration to extend the mela dates. “As per Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s instructions, all arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth experience for devotees. Pilgrims should not believe misinformation,” he stated.
The administration has implemented measures for hassle-free bathing at Triveni Sangam and is managing traffic to balance the movement of devotees and regular city life. Addressing concerns over railway station closures, Mandar clarified that only Prayag Sangam station at Daraganj is closed on peak days to prevent overcrowding, while all other stations remain operational.
He also assured that no student has missed board exams due to the mela. “Students and parents were advised to reach exam centres in advance, and CBSE and ICSE boards are providing an extra opportunity for those who may face unavoidable circumstances,” he added.
The administration has urged devotees and residents to rely only on official sources for information.
