New Delhi/Patna, 28th Oct: The Election Commission of India has issued a notice to poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor after his name was found in voter lists of both Bihar and West Bengal. The Commission has sought his explanation within three days over the apparent duplication.
According to a report in The Indian Express, Kishor’s name is registered in Ward No. 621 within the Maniktala Assembly Constituency under the North Kolkata Parliamentary segment, and also in Bihar’s Karakat Assembly Constituency.
The EC cited Section 17 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which bars any individual from being enrolled in more than one constituency. “Violation of this provision attracts penal action under Section 31, which provides for imprisonment or fine, or both,” the letter stated.
Kishor’s Kolkata address—121 Kalighat Road—was reportedly used during his tenure as campaign advisor for Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections.
The notice places the Jan Suraaj founder under fresh scrutiny as the Election Commission intensifies its efforts to ensure accuracy and transparency in the voter registration process.
