WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump on Sunday welcomed Israel’s decision to temporarily halt airstrikes in Gaza, described it as an opportunity to facilitate the release of hostages and advance a potential peace agreement.

Trump urged Hamas to act swiftly, warning that any delay or adverse outcome would have consequences in a statement posted on social media.

“I appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order to give the hostage release and peace deal a chance to be completed. Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off,” Trump said.

“I will not tolerate delays which many think will happen or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again. Let’s get this done, FAST. Everyone will be treated fairly!”

The situation in Gaza remains tense after the long-standing conflict between Israel and Hamas, media reported.

Trump’s proposed peace plan includes a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a roadmap toward establishing a new government in the Palestinian territories.

The proposal has drawn mixed reactions, with some expressed support and others voiced skepticism.

Global community is working to broker a lasting peace, with the US playing a key role in the negotiations.

Trump’s remarks underscord the urgency of achieving a sustainable resolution to the conflict, media added.
