WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump on Monday reiterated his claim that he stopped the India-Pakistan war in May this year, during his meeting with Zelenskyy.
He spoke with reporters after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskky, Trump said he ended six wars, including the big one between India and Pakistan.
Trump expressed optimism that the Russia-Ukraine war is going to end, said, “The war (Russia-Ukraine) is going to end. When it ends, I can’t tell you but the war is going to end and this gentleman wants it to end and Vladimir Putin wants it to end. I think the whole world is tired of it.”
He added, “I have ended 6 wars and I thought that maybe this would be the easiest one. And it’s not the easiest one. It’s a tough one. India-Pakistan, we are talking about big places. You take a look at some of these wars, you go to Africa and take a look at that. Rwanda and the Congo – that has been going on for 31 years. We have done a total of 6, not including the fact that we totally obliterated the future nuclear capability of Iran…I feel confident that we are going to get this war off.”
India launched precision strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack under code name ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Pakistan also launched large scale drone and missile attacks on several Indian cities but the strong Indian air defences neutralized most of them.
India fired supersonic BrahMos missiles, destroying several Pakistani airfields, radar systems and shooting down at least six aircraft.
Trump suddenly announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10.
New Delhi and Islamabad confirmed the ceasefire, triggered a massive political row in India as Opposition questioned Trump’s role.
Pakistan admitted Trump’s role, India said that the cessation of firing was directly negotiated by the DGMOs of the armed forces of the two countries.
