Kolkata, 9th April.
The Election Commission has decided to install GPS location tracking systems in all vehicles used for polling in West Bengal, an official said. Today, a communication regarding this decision was sent to the poll workers.

The GPS tracking system will be utilized to monitor the movement of EVMs and other polling materials from the distribution/dispersion center to the polling station the day before the elections. It will also ensure that there is no tampering while transporting them to the strong room after polling, the official explained.

If any discrepancies are noticed, the poll body has instructed the administration to take immediate action. They will also question the drivers of the vehicles and the staff in charge of the EVMs, the official added.

Additionally, the commission has appointed Arnab Chatterjee, Joint Secretary in the School Education Department, as the new Joint Chief Electoral Officer, replacing Rahul Nath according to an official order.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal will begin on April 19.
