Police Nab 5 for Extortion via Video Calls

Nuh, Haryana, 6th Feb.
 Five individuals have been arrested in Nuh, Haryana, on charges of extorting money through video calls wherein they trapped victims in lewd conversations. According to Nuh police, the accused created accounts on social media platforms using female names, initiated video calls with people, and then ensnared them in indecent chats.

The Nuh police revealed that victims were threatened with the dissemination of their explicit videos on social media platforms. Fearing disgrace, many individuals succumbed to the demands of the blackmailers and sent them money.

The perpetrators, identified as Mohammad Saad, Ameen, Dilshad, Hussain, and Zahid, were found in possession of eight mobile phones and ten SIM cards.

Before this incident, eight accused from Rajasthan were apprehended for allegedly swindling approximately ₹36 lakhs from an elderly individual in Sector-13, Bhiwani, by creating indecent videos. These accused, hailing from various districts of Rajasthan, had been operating as an interstate gang for the past two years.

The police are currently interrogating the arrested suspects. Varun Singla, Superintendent of Police in Bhiwani, revealed that the elderly victim had lodged a complaint at the cybercrime police station, prompting swift action. Singla stated that in this case of fraud, the perpetrators had made calls from different phone numbers, claiming to be officers from the crime branch and the CBI, and managed to extort ₹36,84,300 within two days.

Singla added that within 48 hours of the incident, the police successfully apprehended the suspects. The arrested individuals have been identified as Jafar, Jilsaad, Naseer, Jafruddin, Akram from Deeg, Iqbal from Alwar, and Chandu and Asir from Bharatpur. Initial investigations revealed that the perpetrators had conceived the idea of cyber fraud through social media and had formed an interstate gang to extort money from victims.
