New Delhi, 4th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi to pay his respects to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who passed away at the age of 81. The Prime Minister also met with Soren’s family, including his son and current Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, and daughter-in-law, Kalpana Soren, to express his condolences.

The Prime Minister confirmed his visit in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Went to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to pay homage to Shri Shibu Soren Ji. Also met his family. My thoughts are with Hemant Ji, Kalpana Ji and the admirers of Shri Shibu Soren Ji.” In a separate post, he reiterated his tribute, noting that Soren’s entire life was “dedicated to the welfare of the tribal society, for which he will always be remembered.”

Shibu Soren, a towering figure in tribal politics and the founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment since June 19. Known as ‘Dishom Guru’ (leader of the land), his death marks the end of an era for the state he was instrumental in creating.

The Prime Minister’s visit follows an earlier condolence message posted on social media, where he had hailed Soren as a “grassroots leader” with an “unwavering dedication to the people.” Soren’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from leaders across the political spectrum, including President Droupadi Murmu, who called him a champion of “tribal identity” and social justice.
