New Delhi, 21st Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met António Guterres on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, with both leaders emphasising the need for ethical AI governance and urgent reforms of global institutions.
The UN Secretary-General congratulated the Prime Minister for organising the AI Impact Summit with a focus on democratising Artificial Intelligence and making it human-centric. He also appreciated India’s leadership in shaping global conversations around emerging technologies.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed the UN’s initiative to establish an Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence and expressed support for efforts aimed at assisting developing countries in leveraging AI for growth and inclusion. He reiterated India’s M.A.N.A.V. Vision for AI—centred on moral systems, accountable governance, national sovereignty, accessibility and legitimacy—underscoring the role of technology as a catalyst for sustainable development.
The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving global order and the need for a multipolar world that reflects contemporary geopolitical realities. Both underlined the imperative of comprehensive reforms within the United Nations, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to enhance its credibility and effectiveness.
Prime Minister Modi extended his best wishes to Secretary-General Guterres for the remainder of his tenure, reaffirming India’s commitment to multilateralism and global cooperation.
