New Delhi, 13th Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on February 14, where he will inaugurate and flag off projects worth over ₹5,450 crore aimed at boosting connectivity, digital infrastructure, education, and urban mobility in the Northeast.
At around 10:30 am, the Prime Minister will land at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. He will witness an aerial display by fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters.
The ELF, the first of its kind in Northeast India, has been developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force as dual-use infrastructure for both civil and military aircraft. It will serve as a strategic asset for emergency response, including disaster relief operations. The facility can handle fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes.
At around 1 pm, the Prime Minister will visit the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu across the Brahmaputra, a six-lane extradosed prestressed concrete bridge built at a cost of about ₹3,030 crore. The bridge will connect Guwahati with North Guwahati and reduce travel time between the two points to about seven minutes.
Designed for a high-seismic zone, the bridge incorporates base isolation technology using friction pendulum bearings, along with high-performance stay cables. It also features a Bridge Health Monitoring System for real-time condition tracking and early damage detection.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the National Data Centre for the North-Eastern Region at Amingaon in Kamrup district. The facility, with a sanctioned load of 8.5 MW, will host mission-critical government applications and function as a disaster recovery centre, strengthening the region’s digital infrastructure under the Digital India initiative.
In addition, Modi will inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management, Guwahati, aimed at boosting higher and management education in the Northeast.
He will also flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme across four cities—Guwahati, Nagpur, Bhavnagar, and Chandigarh. Officials said more than 50 lakh citizens are expected to benefit from cleaner, affordable, and reliable public transport services.
