Jammu, 26th August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will spearhead the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign in the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, marking the first democratic exercise in the region since its reorganization into a Union Territory in August 2019.
The BJP has submitted a list of 40 star campaigners to the Election Commission for the first phase of the assembly elections. Key figures joining the campaign include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national president J P Nadda, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Other prominent leaders slated to campaign in the region are Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Manohar Lal Khattar, G Kishan Reddy, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jitendra Singh, and former Union ministers Anurag Thakur, Smriti Irani, and General (Retd.) V K Singh. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur are also on the list.
The three-phased assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to take place on September 18, 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes set for October 4.
In a letter to the Election Commission, BJP national general secretary and in-charge headquarters Arun Singh indicated that the list of star campaigners might remain unchanged for the subsequent phases unless an amended list is submitted within the prescribed time limit.
The campaign will also see the participation of former BJP general secretary and recently appointed election in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Ram Madhav, alongside other notable party figures such as Tarun Chugh, Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina, Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Ali Khatana, General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Kaul, and Jammu and Kashmir BJP vice president Sofi Yousuf.
